Indiana State Library Genealogy & Local History Fair

Interested in Indiana genealogy and local history? This is the place to be. Come meet representatives from genealogical and historical societies from all across Indiana.

Katie will be there with her books and info on writing about family history for kids.

From the ISL:

The Indiana State Library will host the annual Indiana Genealogy and Local History Fair in downtown Indianapolis. Admission is free and open to the general public. This year’s theme is “Sacrificing and Shaping the Future,” commemorating the Centennial of the Great War and examining military resources and history.

Over 30 organizations and exhibitors will be in attendance.  Visit the tables in the exhibition hall to collect information from genealogical and local history organizations, and shop the commercial vendors.

Highly acclaimed, internationally known speakers and genealogy consultants, Kathleen Brandt and Katherine R. Willson, will present.

    Book Launch & Story time

Come out for old fashioned pioneer fun and storytelling with the book launch of Katie Andrews Potter's first children's book: When Mother Read Aloud: The Life Story of Almyra King Holsclaw. Based on the memoir of Katie's great-great-great grandmother, Almyra, who lived her whole life in Jennings County, Indiana. The book was edited by Katie and includes a biography of Almyra. It was illustrated by five Indiana high school students and is steeped in Indiana pioneer history.

The event will include two storytelling times with Katie reading the book aloud, along with another children's book she has written with her daughter about another ancestor, Nellie Hitchcock Mulry, plus a recitation of Little Orphant Annie by Katie's mother Laurie Andrews, in honor of the Hoosier poet James Whitcomb Riley on his birthday.

This event will be held in the 1830s Hendricks log cabin on site at Johnson County Museum of History in Franklin, Indiana. Take time to explore the museum when you are there (and their genealogy library!), and don't miss the two storytelling times at 1:30 and 2:30 in the cabin.

Book signing and sales will be available, of the children's book as well as Katie's two young adult historical fiction novels, Going over Home and Going over Jordan.

    Hope to see you there!
